Dennis I. Goldberg, Ph.D.
President and Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Goldberg has more than 20 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, ranging from drug discovery at a Fortune 25 company to chief executive officer of “virtual” biotechnology companies. Dr. Goldberg is president, chief executive officer and founder of neXus therapeutics, inc. He was president, chief executive officer and director of BZL Biologics, a company developing monoclonal antibodies against Prostate Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA) for the treatment of prostate and other types of cancer. The BZL antibody technology was licensed by Millennium Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:MLNM). Dr. Goldberg was president, chief executive officer and co-founder of Talaria Therapeutics, where he headed the team that took the Large Unilamellar Vesicle (LUV) technology into clinical development. Talaria Therapeutics was acquired by Esperion Therapeutics (NASDAQ:ESPR) in a stock and cash transaction less than two years after its formation. Dr. Goldberg was vice president of product development and regulatory affairs at GelTex Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:GELX), where he was responsible for all biological and clinical development activities at the company, leading to the approval of RenaGel® and WelChol®. He was co-founder of Transcend Therapeutics, as well as vice president of research and development at Clintec Nutrition Co. He also led the Atherosclerosis Research Program at Pfizer Central Research. Dr. Goldberg holds a Ph.D. in Physiology and Biochemistry from Temple University and received post doctoral training in the Department of Physiology, University of Pennsylvania and at the Specialized Center of Research on Atherosclerosis, University of California, San Diego. He has published extensively in basic and clinical sciences and is the inventor on nine U.S. patents.
Eric Morrel, Ph.D.
Vice President, Clinical Research
Dr. Morrel has been working in the biotechnology industry for 18 years and in clinical research for the last 13. Dr. Morrel was previously associate director of clinical operations at Transkaryotic Therapeutics Inc. (TKTI) where he was responsible for the direction and management of all clinical trials relating to gene therapy, including protocol design and execution, monitoring and regulatory submissions. Prior to joining TKTI, he was assistant director of medical affairs at Ascent Pediatrics. He managed over 20 Phase I clinical trials and participated in multiple Phase II/III studies, selecting, negotiating and managing the contracts of the CROs performing all of the study activities. Dr. Morrel contributed various clinical sections as parts of three NDA and two IND submissions. Dr. Morrel has a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from M.I.T., an M.S. in Chemical Engineering and Chemical Engineering Practice from M.I.T. and B.S.E. in Chemical Engineering from Princeton University. Dr. Morrel is the inventor of two U.S. patents.
Phillip M. Friden, Ph.D.
Vice President, Research and Development
Dr. Friden has 20 years experience in the biopharmaceutical industry building and managing cross-functional research and development teams, from discovery through clinical development. Dr. Friden was formerly vice president of biology at Scion Pharmaceuticals, a start-up biotechnology company focused on small molecule drug discovery of ion channel modulators. Prior to joining Scion, Dr. Friden was vice president of Research and Development at Periodontix, which was acquired by Demegen in 2001. In this role, Dr. Friden managed an R & D team focused on the development of antimicrobial peptides, other novel antimicrobial agents and drug delivery systems for the treatment of chronic infectious diseases and was responsible for moving three products into the clinic. Dr. Friden began his career in the biotechnology industry as one of the founding scientists of Alkermes, Inc., where he initiated and lead a research program focused on the delivery of therapeutics across the blood-brain barrier. Dr. Friden received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology from the State University of New York, Stony Brook and conducted Post-Doctoral research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Friden is an inventor on 19 issued U.S. patents and has published more than 40 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters.
Robert Etheredge, Ph.D.
Vice President, Operations
Dr. Etheredge has served the medical device and drug delivery industries for over 25 years, has published extensively, and holds numerous patents for medical innovations. He has personally managed all phases of medical device development from early phase needs identification and ideation to latter-phase manufacturing transition and post marketing surveillance. During the last decade, Dr. Etheredge has served major players in the medical device and drug delivery industries as principal scientist and partner with the Technology and Innovation group at Arthur D. Little, Inc. (now TIAX LLC). He has been a central figure in technical and intellectual property assessments for start-ups and early stage investing. Early in his career, Dr. Etheredge worked with pioneers in osteoarthritis at Boston's Children's Hospital Medical Center before moving to industry with Tyco International. As a principal scientist with Tyco, Dr. Etheredge managed the development of proprietary wound care products for the Curad label, adhesives and transdermal patches, OTC topical products, and surgical innovations for acute care.
Sean Moran
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Moran joined Transport in June 2006. He has over 20 years of financial experience. Previously, Mr. Moran was Chief Financial Officer of Sontra Medical Corporation from 2002 through 2006. Prior to his employment with Sontra, Mr. Moran was Chief Financial Officer of SatCon Technology Corporation from 2000 through 2002. From 1994 through 2000, Mr. Moran was Chief Financial Officer of Anika Therapeutics. Mr. Moran holds a B.S. in Business Administration and a M.B.A. from Babson College.
Tony Sharma
Vice President, Quality and Operational Excellence
Mr. Sharma has 18 years experience in Medical Devices and Diagnostic products, leading Quality & Operational Excellence activities in product development as well as manufacturing areas. Mr. Sharma was formerly Corporate Operational Excellence Manager at Tyco Healthcare, a major medical device and pharmaceutical company. He was responsible for deploying Design for Six Sigma at various divisions of Tyco Healthcare. Prior to joining Tyco Healthcare, Mr. Sharma was Director of Pre-production Quality Assurance at a Johnson & Johnson Company. In this role, he led a team of quality engineers and scientists for the diagnostic instruments and reagents development. Before that, Mr. Sharma held positions of increasing responsibilities at Bristol-Myers Squibb and two other Johnson & Johnson medical device companies. He holds three U.S patents and is a Certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt. Mr. Sharma holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, M.S. in Industrial Engineering and is a Certified Quality Engineer by American Society for Quality.
