Actinic Keratosis
Actinic keratosis, affecting more than 58 million people in the U.S., is a pre-cancerous skin condition, which appears as dry, scaly, rough-textured patches or lesions on the skin that are due to frequent and intense exposure to ultraviolet light, predominantly from sunlight.
Acyclovir
Acyclovir is an anti-viral drug. Tranport’s lead product, the SoloVir™ Electrokinetic Transdermal System (ETS), delivers high concentrations of a proprietary acyclovir formulation directly to the epidermal/dermal junction of the skin, the precise site of herpes labialis (cold sore) infection, in sufficient amounts to block viral replication.
Corticosteroids
Corticosteroids are a class of steroid hormones, produced in the adrenal cortex, that block the production of substances that trigger allergic and inflammatory actions. Corticosteroids are used to treat a wide range of diseases, including psoriasis.
Electrokinetic Drug Delivery
Electrokinetics is a technology employing a low-votage electrical current to induce fluid and particle movement and can deliver large amounts of medication through the skin
Herpes Labialis
Herpes labialis, also called orofacial herpes, or cold sores, is most often caused by Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 (HSV1). It is estimated that up to 90 percent of the U.S. population is seropositive, representing a prior infection with the HSV1 virus.
Herpes Labialis Lesion Stages:
Prodrome Stage
Itching, burning, tingling and or pain limited to specific site where cold sores have occurred in the past. Symptoms which are felt to be a warning of the onset of a cold sore.
Erythema Stage
Any redness with no skin swelling or other signs of advanced stages.
Papule/Edema Stage
Skin swelling or solid raised area above the normal skin surface.
Vesicle/Pustule Stage
One or more fluid-filled superficial blisters raised above the normal skin surface.
Ulcer Stage
A break in the skin or mucous membranes with loss of surface tissue and disintegration and necrosis of epithelial tissue; usually resulting from collapse or bursting of a vesicle.
Soft or Hard Crust Stage
A soft or, later as it dries, hard, membranous covering over an ulcer.
Aborted Lesion
Any cold sore lesion that does not pass through the vesicle/pustule, ulcer, soft or hard crust stages prior to healing.

Iontophoresis
Electrokinetic drug delivery utilizes a low-voltage electric current to induce fluid and particle movement. Inotophoresis is a type of electrokinetic delivery and involves the application of an electromotive force to transport ions and neutral molecules through a solid or liquid medium and can be employed to deliver drug into the epidermis.
Imiquimod
Imiquimod, trade name Aldara™, is a prescription medication which acts as an immune response modifier, and was approved in 2004 for the treatment of actinic keratosis.
Onychomycosis
Onychomycosis is a very common fungal infection of the nails that causes thickening, roughness, discoloration and splitting. About 20 percent of the U.S. population has onychomycosis.
Psoriasis
Psoriasis is an immune-mediated, genetic disease, manifesting in the skin and/or the joints. Psoriasis is a serious, non-contagious and life-long skin disease affecting more than 4.5 million people in the U.S.
SoloVir™ Electrokintetic Transdermal System (ETS)
SoloVir ETS is Transport’s drug/device combination product for herpes labialis and other dermatological indications. It consists of a reusable iontophoretic control unit and a disposable, unit-dose, single-use medicated cartridge. SoloVir ETS is based on a combination of iontophoresis, a technology employing a low-voltage electric current to increase the delivery of medication through the skin, and a proprietary formulation of generic drugs that have been optimized for iontophoretic delivery. The SoloVir system drives a large bolus of drug into the skin, creating an intradermal drug depot in a single treatment.
Stratum Corneum
The stratum corneum is the outer layer of the skin. It serves as the immune system’s natural first line of defense, protecting the underlying dermal layers, organs and blood supply, but also prevents topically applied drugs from effectively reaching their target.
Terbinafine
Terbinafine, sold under the trade name Lamisil®, is a fungicidal agent that is particularly potent against the key causative agent in onychomycosis. Terbinafine became a generic drug in 2006.
