Phase 2 Study Results
SoloVir™ ETS completed a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase 2 study for the treatment of herpes labialis in October, 2007 (click here for results).

In particular, the study demonstrated a 79 percent increase in aborted lesions (43% active; 24% placebo; p= 0.03; active n= 61; placebo n= 72) in SoloVir™ ETS treated subjects versus placebo. This is the first demonstration of a single treatment demonstrating a statistically significant increase in aborted lesions.  These subjects also experienced a 3.5 day reduction in time to complete healing (p= 0.015).  Furthermore, this study demonstrated a statistically significant and clinically meaningful reduction in duration and severity of pain.  SoloVir™ ETS was shown to be well tolerated with a compliance rate greater than 98 percent and with no serious adverse events reported related to study drug in all groups.

Transport has invested in developing a manufacturing process which can meet anticipated commercial demand.

It has been estimated that up to 90 percent of the general population is infected with HSV1, causing recurrent cold sore outbreaks in approximately 30 percent of this affected population. The current market for oral herpes treatment is conservatively estimated to be approximately $500 million and the prescription market is growing 20% a year.  The prevalence of herpes labialis is believed to be similar throughout the world, resulting in a potential global market that is a multiple of the multi-billion dollar U.S. market.
Specifically, SoloVir™  ETS:

  • Is administered as a single, ten minute treatment
  • Demonstrated the ability to deliver unprecedented amounts of acyclovir to the skin in two Phase 1 clinical studies.  Skin acyclovir concentrations are at least 100 times greater than can be achieved with a 1 gram oral dose of Valtrex®, the leading oral antiviral drug.
  • Achieved unprecedented 79% decrease in prevention of progression to classical lesion, 3.5 reduction in healing times, and statistically significant reduction of severity and duration of pain.

Transport seeks to license out exclusively the global marketing rights to SoloVir™ ETS.
Transport is flexible about the structure of a partnership arrangement, but would expect such a transaction to include the following financial considerations:

  • Significant up-front licensing fee
  • Development and Sales milestones
  • Royalties
